Afternoon Tea in Wedgwood Tearoom

  • Sharebar

After days and days of having Taiwanese street food, we decided to have a change of taste and went for a fancy afternoon tea session. It was rather impromptu really, since we had a free day of shopping and happened to be in Sogo. While window-shopping, we somehow ended up on the 9th floor, and spotted this cute tea house in white and baby blue, buzzing with people! Partly curious and partly hungry, we decided to join in the crowd and went in the queue for Wedgwood Tearoom. About 15 minutes later, we had our table, and a nice one too! It was right next to the window with an amazing view of the Taipei city.

Fancy a cup of tea?

I took quite a good few minutes admiring the tea house, with plenty of delicate crockery decorating the walls and the trees. Everything was arranged immaculately, including our cutlery on our table. Interestingly, as crowded as it seemed, we didn’t feel rushed for our order. We took a while browsing through the menu and decided to share the Afternoon Tea Set for One. At a price of NTD400 (RM40) for one set, I’d definitely say it’s not cheap!

The tea set only came with a pot of tea, but the waitress was accommodating enough to provide us 2 tea cups to share the tea. Unfortunately, unlike Chinese tea, English tea is not refillable because the tea bag would already be removed when served, since it’s only meant to be brewed for a fixed amount of time and not much longer.

Tea set for one (NTD400 / ~RM40)

The Afternoon tea set for one did not come served in a 3-tiered tower like what we’d expect, perhaps because they only reserved those towers for a minimum order of 2 sets. Our set for one was served on a plate, which looked boring and uninteresting, I thought. Included in the set was 2 ham and cheese sandwiches, a scone with jam, a ricotta cheese fruit tart, a macaron, a chocolate cookie, a chocolate ganache cake and some fruits.

Warm and fluffy scone

There was nothing impressive about the sandwiches, but I remember enjoying the scone very much. It was slightly warm when served, and had an airy and fluffy texture that was perfect with the raspberry jam. The fruits were fresh and sweet, while the macaron was light and crumbly. The chocolate cake was too sweet for our liking but the fruit tart was pretty good. In fact, since most of the items were sweet and rich, we thought the set for one was actually enough for the two of us.

Gorgeous tea pot

There was a long list of teas that we could choose from, but we played safe and chose the Earl Grey Tea. It was aromatic and strong, just how I’d like it. But most importantly, I couldn’t help to admire the gorgeous tea pot and tea cups they used for the tea. How fine they were!

We took our own sweet time enjoying our afternoon snacks and tea, while being surrounded by the amazing views of the metropolitan next to us. While we did enjoy our little fancy break in the afternoon, I’d probably say it was not something we’d do often. It’s simply too extravagant and Saucer is not exactly a sweet-tooth. But it was indeed an experience to remember and cherish! :)

nice decor! but i guess it leans toward feminine … you could come here and hang out with your girlfriends, but saucer probably wouldn’t come here to hang out with his guy friends! :D

Ooooo…love the crockery. So very English. Love the tea delights too. Would go for these anytime…instead of the street food.
