My Bidding Experience

  • Sharebar

Last week, I wrote a post about the latest bidding site in town called ChikaPowWow. It has rapidly caught up with the trends now with more and more people joining the bidding party. I know that because I was one of the excited bidders last week. When I thought the website was still new, hence with less competitors, I would win something. But as fate would have it, I was not that lucky. I lost more than 100 tokens in one bidding session. :(

Items available for bid

From the list of items available that day, I was only interested in one of them, which was the Bose IE2 Headphones. The way to bid is quite different here, whereby one has to purchase tokens known as ‘Chikas’ as the ticket to bid. Each bid would require one Chika, which would then increase the price of the item by 1 cent or 10 cents, depending. For the item that I was interested in, each bid would increase the price by 10 cents. For something that costs over RM500, I was willing to pay up to RM50 for it.

Bidding for Chikas or Tokens

In order to bid, one has to purchase Chikas sold at RM1.50 each. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you might be able to bid for the Chikas and buy them at a much lower price, like this auction here. The process is fairly straightforward and real-time, as you get to see the price increasing with each bid placed, without having to refresh your browser. As with most bidding sites, the highest activity level occurs at the last minute of the deadline, where you can see the price increasing rapidly.

Back to my bidding experience. It was my first time bidding and seriously wanting to win it, so I was too anxious with placing my bids. In actual fact, one should place the bid during the final seconds of the closing time, to maximize one’s chances. But I was too eager that I did it the wrong way, placing bids whenever someone else was bidding ahead of me. If you are worried about making the same mistake like me, do try out the Robot Pow function, where your bid is automatically placed based on the maximum set by you. That way, you won’t face the danger of over-bidding due to the excitement of the moment. In the end, I lost all my Chikas on this item, without winning it. And I only have myself to blame, especially when I looked at the other winning auctions listed.

Winning auctions

Can you imagine? Someone actually won a GPS for only RM7.60! And a brand New iPad for RM79! That’s amazing! Well, it’s still not too late for me to purchase more Chikas and start bidding again, this time the right way. Just one note, please don’t fight with me if you see me bidding ok? :D
