When it comes to steaks, Prime almost never escapes mention. I have heard so much about Prime but never visited it until I got my Starwood card last month. We were there on a Thursday night and the place was rather busy with more than half of the tables occupied. Fortunately, service was pretty good and fast, albeit slightly rushed. We started dinner with their famous bread, arrived steaming hot and very fragrant. I especially enjoyed the Cheese and Black Pepper bread that was slightly spicy and had a nice cheesy crust on top.

After going through the menu, we decided to choose Seared Sea Scallops as our starter since we both love scallops. There were 6 pieces of reasonably large scallops which were seared on both sides, surrounding a poached egg in the middle. I thought the poached egg was a tad overdone, since the egg white was no longer runny, but thankfully the egg yolk was flowing gloriously from the middle once we cut it open. The scallops were nicely seasoned and juicy, with a bouncy texture. I could definitely finish a plate on my own.

Now for the star of the night, Saucer chose the O’Connor Beef Ribeye, done medium rare. It was quite sizable at 340g, and very aromatic too. The steak was perfectly medium rare, with a nice juicy pink interior that was not overly bloody. It gave the steak a burst of flavor with each bite and had a nice marbling too. I think Saucer enjoyed his steak very much that night.

To go with our steaks, we also ordered some side dishes, namely the Sauteed Green Asparagus and Creamy Spinach with Garlic. I particularly enjoyed the spinach because it’s one of my favorite vegetables, and it went very well with the creamy gravy. It was savory and a little rich with a nice garlic flavor, and pretty addictive! I wouldn’t mind ordering the same side dish the next time I return to Prime.

As for me, I chose the Master Kobe Oyster Blade Steak which was actually one of the more popular cuts because of its high marbling (grade 9) at a reasonable price. It was a smaller cut at 220g, and it was done perfectly medium as I requested. The meat was really tender and juicy, with an almost melt-in-your-mouth texture. It also tasted different from the rib eye, a somewhat smoother and richer flavor, probably from the marbling. Needless to say, I had no problem polishing this on my own. Due to the fat content, this smaller cut was pretty filling too.

I told Saucer that I was stuffed by then but he must have been in a good mood for he insisted that we should try their dessert. Well, a girl never says no to chocolate, right? We had the Rich Hot Chocolate Cake, which was served piping hot with a nice aroma. It was presented with some strawberries, a scoop of ice-cream and some chocolate sauce. Cutting open the cake revealed more chocolate sauce oozing from the center, which made it all the more decadent. The cake was very chocolatey and sweet, with a fluffy and moist texture. It was the perfect partner to the cold ice-cream. It was indeed a fabulous and sweet ending to our lovely dinner.

With so much hype about Prime being the best place for steaks, there is bound to be people who believe otherwise. I think it is really important to know what type of steaks to order that suits one preference, because the range offered at Prime is pretty huge. I was glad that both of us enjoyed our steaks that night and we would have no qualms about returning.
