When Plan A Fails

  • Sharebar

Since I just blogged about Ben’s at Pavilion, why don’t we continue the streak with another of BIG’s establishments, this time at Plan B. It was a Saturday afternoon, and a couple of my ex-schoolmates asked to meet up before I leave the country. Seeing that it was good time for brunch, I couldn’t help but suggest Plan B. It was my first time there but I’d heard so much about the poached eggs so ordering was a piece of cake for me. Plan B was pretty busy in the afternoon, there was consistently a queue at the entrance, so make sure you’re there early to beat the lunch crowd.

There’s always time for eggs

Once we’re seated, we were served warm water which came from a semi-transparent brown bottle that reminded me very much of the bottles that store chemicals back in school. Ah, memories!

My friend Niki was always a small eater, so she ordered the Plan B Salad for herself. Being the big eater that I am, I frowned at her choice and told her that she would regret not ordering eggs there. :P Her salad was a combination of fresh mesclun leaves, chopped cucumber, onions  and green olives tossed with spiced Mediterranean dressing then topped with toasted 7 seeds. Just reading the description of it in the menu gave me a very ‘green’ feeling. I took a bite of it when it was served and sure enough, the largely sour salad was not something that my taste buds would agree with. But she finished her salad anyway, all the while envying what KL and I had. :P

There were 3 choices of poached eggs on the menu, one served with Turkey ham, one with mushroom and another with smoked salmon. I chose the Eggs Ben which were delicately poached eggs served on a slow-roasted Portobello mushroom and topped with fresh arugula, all heaped on a toasted English muffin loaded with Hollandaise sauce. One word to describe it – glorious! The eggs were perfectly poached, with golden and runny egg yolk flowing down the muffins just like a mini waterfall. It was not only a treat to the eyes, but to the palate too. The combination of eggs, arugula, mushroom and toasted muffin worked wonders for me, and the creamy Hollandaise just made it that much better. Don’t underestimate the power of 2 simple eggs for they were very satisfying and I ended up feeling full until dinner.

KL ordered the Plan B Platter, which came with two eggs any style, served on toast with crispy turkey bacon, golden hash brown, breakfast sausages, baked beans, sautéed mushrooms and roasted tomatoes. The set also came with  a glass of fresh orange juice and a choice of coffee or tea, definitely good value for money. I didn’t try any of his platter but from the look on his face, KL was definitely satiated with his meal. He kept nodding when I asked him how’s the food. :)

Since Niki was not completely satisfied with her salad, she ordered the Flourless Chocolate Fudge Cake to compensate for it. I was happy that she did, because I ended up having a few bites of this fabulous cake! It was my first time trying a flourless cake and I didn’t expect it to be so good. The cake was very chocolatey without being too sweet, and extremely moist and soft. I could easily finish a whole piece of it on my own. :P

 Great company for brunch

At the end of the meal, we talked and talked, catching up after not seeing each other for at least half a year. That’s the thing with schoolmates, isn’t it? We could have been apart for years but every time we meet up, it feels just like yesterday when we were gossiping during break time in the classroom. Plan B certainly didn’t fail in the eggs department, and I would happily recommend this place as the perfect brunch venue in a casual dining environment.

Another short update on the girl who thought her boyfriend cheated on her. Apparently, there were a few occasions where the girl caught her boyfriend with another girl, such as one where she saw him buying jewelry for another girl and another where he was proposing! What do you think really happened?  (Watch full videos here)

Is that lipstick on his shirt?

Is he buying jewelry for another girl?

He’s proposing to someone else?

Whatever it is, it is utterly important to clear the misunderstanding and avoid uncertainties through a phone call.  To mark the value of making a phone call, 31st March is chosen to be “Make That Call Day”. It is a special day to appreciate the special people in our lives and this can be accomplished with a simple phone call to tell them how special they are. Learn from the lesson the couple in the video teaches us: “Don’t be like these two. Go pick up your phone and save your relationship today. ” After all, a call costs almost nothing at all.
